Drawing from a decade of experience in construction and window installation, Firth uses the concept of egressβ€”a secondary means of escape from a roomβ€”as a lens through which to examine labor, landscape, and the built environment. Built through layers of accumulation and excavation, his paintings emerge from views of Kapiolani Boulevard, St. Louis Heights, and Wilhelmina Rise, visible from his rented apartment.

Solomon Firth (b. 1995. Honolulu, HI) creates flat paintings and structural installations that look at the realities of land value and labor across developed Hawai’i. Moving between works on paper and spatial interventions, his practice relies on the specific properties of his media.
